Daily Paper‘s continued celebration of African heritage sees them unite with Wekaforce, reminding us that “The Spirit Don’t Die” as they immortalize the musical and political legend, Fela Kuti.
Fresh back off the slopes that gave life to its Holiday 2021 pre-collection, Daily Paper finds unity in its mission to spotlight, celebrate, and share the spirit of African heritage with the world. Through apparel as a catalyst for education, the brand has explored a multitude of themes concerning the African diaspora, culminating in collections such as “From African To The World” and collaborations with Wizkid and Popcaan‘s Unruly.
Collection to collection, the Amsterdam-based team has put the spotlight firmly on its community through local and global initiatives and the Unite hub.
Its latest uptake sees Wekaforce brought into the fold. The Nigerian creative imprint and brand is representative of a new generation of African designers looking to break through barriers and cement themselves on the global stage. Together the brands take the late Fela Kuti – celebrated for his contributions to political activism and giving life to the Afrobeat genre – as a creative muse.
A true ode to blackness, African culture, and the power of unity, each piece in the collection comes on a black base, as a reference to Black skin. Denim items, T-shirts, and hoodies feature a laser printed silhouette of Kuti’s face, while women’s products feature the joyful faces of Black women. The final items in the lineup are filled with a beautiful red acid wash, displaying the collection’s title, “The Spirit Don’t Die.”
The Wekaforce x Daily Paper collection will land online and in global flagship stores from October 15.
